One minor point: I didn't see anything in the Tweak UI instructions on microsoft.com which told me that I needed to restart XP in order for it to work, but I did need to restart my PC before it worked.nwusaguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10180801432027763324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-13219103746735040102008-12-01T05:40:00.000-08:002008-12-01T05:40:00.000-08:00Thanks Chris. I'll keep reading and see if I can't figure this out. It's only really annoying with Photoshop, so that's not so rough. Otherwise I'm mostly enjoying Vista. Thanks for the in depth info you've put here.Matt Hollingsworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11508408961031520485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-40574250269634549302008-12-01T04:30:00.000-08:002008-12-01T04:30:00.000-08:00Matt,Thanks for pointing out the missing bracket -...Matt,
Thanks for pointing out the missing bracket -- now fixed. I've used this for WinXP; I have not tested with Vista. According to Microsoft, you are suppose to change the setting to zero in decimal (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=886217) - you might want to give that a shot.Chris Toddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09035433827373014702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-90131603157739986402008-12-01T03:41:00.000-08:002008-12-01T03:41:00.000-08:00Thanks for the tips.Looks like you left an end bra...Thanks for the tips.

Looks like you left an end bracket off of your focus.reg:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
"ForegroundLockTimeout"=dword:00030d40

Should have an end bracket after "Desktop", right?

I tried this and it works, but doesn't end up actually working for me. The focus.reg seems to be at least changing that entry to 00030d40. But I suspect that there is some other process that is changing it to zero somewhere earlier in the process. Not sure.

I tried using Process Monitor to see what was going on but the boot log doesn't work for me. I'm running Vista SP1.

Specifically, Photoshop steals focus every time. Running Photoshop CS3. Other software seems to not steal focus (Quicken, FileZilla, Mozilla Sunbird, XnView etc), but it also doesn't flash in the taskbar.

Is Photoshop diabolical in this way?

Thanks for the tips!Matt Hollingsworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11508408961031520485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-81869186867831997762008-11-07T06:03:00.000-08:002008-11-07T06:03:00.000-08:00I havent tried a new keyboard but i followed your ...I havent tried a new keyboard but i followed your tip religiously

Thnx alot for answering back ...

I just try what you have suggested and get back to you soonDJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17024556678092692112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-72718205022138654542008-11-06T18:16:00.000-08:002008-11-06T18:16:00.000-08:00dj,Just to confirm, you are still seeing this prob...dj,
Just to confirm, you are still seeing this problem after following the tips on this page?

If so, have you tried a different keyboard?CHRISdotTODDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01891237750055202017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-87150008393619964582008-11-06T12:58:00.000-08:002008-11-06T12:58:00.000-08:00Hi there i just hope you answer back to this .. my...Hi there i just hope you answer back to this .. my active window loses focus to start menu .. especially when i press spacebar and s key and some other key combinations are opening internet explorer... but the main thing is that active windows are losing focus which is very annoying ..
I just hope you cud help me !! thnx alot in advanceDJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17024556678092692112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26496923.post-69852183253225623142008-03-22T12:30:00.000-07:002008-03-22T12:30:00.000-07:00Good tips.
